Depthcalibration
DepthOffset
Depthsaremeasuredfromthetransducertotheseabed,butyou
canapplyanoffsetvaluetothedepthdata,sothatthedisplayed
depthreadingrepresentsthedepthtotheseabedfromeither
thekeelorthewaterline.
Beforeattemptingtosetawaterlineorkeeloffset,ndout
theverticalseparationbetweenthetransducerandeitherthe
waterlineorthebottomofthekeelonyourvessel,asappropriate.
Thensettheappropriatedepthoffsetvalue.

Ifanoffsetisnotapplied,displayeddepthreadingsrepresentthe
distancefromthetransducertotheseabed.
Settingthedepthoffset
ThedepthcalibrationconsistsofsettingaDepthOffsetthatis
relevanttoyourdepthtransducer’sinstalledlocation.
Fromanyfavoritepage:
1.SelectMenu.
2.SelectSet-up.
3.SelectTransducersSet-up.
4.SelectContinue.
Theinstrumentdisplaywillsearchforanddisplayalistof
connecteddevices.(i.e.iTC-5,DSTortransducerpod)
5.Selectthedevicethatthetransducer(s)youarecalibrating
areconnectedto.
Alistofavailabletransducerdataisdisplayed,
6.*SelectDepth.
Note:*SteponlyapplicabletoiTC-5.
7.SelectDepthOffset.
8.SelectDepthFrom:.
Alistoftransduceroffsetsisdisplayed:
•Waterline
•Keel
•Transducer(default)
9.Selectthelocationthatyouwantdepthmeasurementstobe
takenfrom.
AfterselectiontheDepthOffsetpageisdisplayed.Ifyouhave
selectedWaterlineorKeelaDepthOffsetmustbeapplied.
10.SelectOffset:.
11.UsetheUpandDownbuttonstoadjusttheDepthOffsetto
therequiredvalue.
Theoffsetvalueshouldbethesameasthemeasured
distance:
•fromthetransducerfacetotheWaterline,or
•fromthetransducerfacetothebottomoftheKeel.
12.SelectSave.
SettinganincorrectDepthOffsetcouldleadtoyourvessel
runningaground.
Speedcalibration
Speedtransducercalibrationisrequiredastransducer
performanceisaffectedbyanumberofvariablessuch
astransducerlocation,shapeofthehullandwaterow
characteristics.ThepurposeofperformingSpeedcalibrationis
toensurethatthespeedreadingsattheinstrumentareatrue
indicationofthevessel’sactualspeed.
Inordertoachieveaccurateresults,speedcalibrationmustbe
carriedoutincalmconditionswithzerotideandzerocurrent.
Speedcalibrationalignstheinstrumentslogspeed(Speed
ThroughWater)to:
•SpeedOverGround(SOG),or
•areferencedspeed
CalibratingusingSOG
Formostinstallationsa1PointSpeedCalibrationisallthatis
required.
Ifthe1pointcalibrationdoesnotprovidesufcientlyaccurate
readingsoryourequireahigherlevelofprecisionforyourspeed
readingsthenaSpeedRunCalibrationcanbecarriedout.It
isadvisabletocarryouttheSpeedRunCalibrationatasmany
speedsaspossible.Thisisparticularlyimportantforplaning
vessels.
*Conventionalspeedtransducershaveamaximumof5
calibrationspeeds,andsmarttransducers(e.g.DST800)have
upto8.
Ifrequiredeachcalibrationpointcanalsohaveacalibrationfactor
appliedtofurtheralignthelogspeedreadingacrossdifferent
vesselspeeds.
Note:*TheSpeedRunCalibrationcannotbeperformedwhen
thetransducerisconnectedtoaSpeedPod.
CalibratingwithoutSOG
Formostinstallationsa1PointSpeedCalibrationisallthat
isrequired.Thecalibrationmustbeperformedusingaway
ofestimatingactualvesselspeedandadjustingthedisplayed
readingsothatthelogspeedmatchestheyourestimatedspeed.
